Show LOCAL CANCER CAMPAIGN IS LAUNCHED Under the direction of President Hannah M. Clyde of the stake Relief Re-lief society board, and Mrs. Maude Peterson, representing: the federated feder-ated women's clubs of the "city, civic and church groups are cooperating coop-erating with the American Soci'ety for Cancer control in a campaign to educate people on danger signals sig-nals and other phases of this dread malady which annually takes hun-d hun-d reds of lives th roughou t the country. The campaign will be launched locally with talks on the control of cancer to be gi'ven by physicians in each of the Sunday night meetings meet-ings throughout the town- Di G. G. Neill will speak on the subject sub-ject in the First ward; Dr. G: B. Or ton in the Second ward; -Dr John R. Anderson in the Third ward; Dr. R. C. Petty in ; the Fourth ward and Dr. L. E, Otte-son Otte-son at Mapleton. Danger signals whith may mean cancer and which should always mean a visit to the physician, are listed by the society as follows: fol-lows: Any persistent lump , oi thickening, especially of the breast (2) any irregular bleeding or discharge dis-charge from any part of the body openings; (3) any sore that does not heal, particularly about the tongue, mouth or lips; (4) persistent persis-tent indigestion especially accompanied accom-panied by distaste for meat; (o) sudden changes in the form or rate of a mole or wart. PAIN IS A LATE SYMPTOM-DO SYMPTOM-DO NOT WAIT FOR IT. Early cancer is curable if treated treat-ed by a qualified physician by X-Ray, X-Ray, radium or surgery. If you have suspicious symptoms, secure competent medical .advice without delay, is the advice given by the secretary. Two of the paramount aims of the campaign are: To teach every man, woman and child in the country coun-try that early cancer is curable and that general cancer mortality figures can be lowered only by courageous alertness and prompt action by the individual. To enlist during April, which has been designated as Cancer Control Month by a special act of congress, as many women and men as possible in the Women's Field Army of the American Society So-ciety for the Control of Cancer. The enlistment fee dollars ar needed to carry out educational work. Membership fees of $1 to the society from local citizens will be received by Mrs. Maude Peterson before April 2. |
