Show Army Mule Blamed By English Private at His Courtmartial BORDON, Eng., Nov. 15 (LT.E) It was the army mules, not the army, that "got" private W. G. Harris, of the 2nd devon-shire devon-shire regiment, he pleaded today to-day when charged before a courtmartial with 'being absent without leave. "Four times they got me," Harris said. "In 1927, on the way to China, one kicked me. In 1930 a mule fell on me and another bolted and dragged me along with it. In 1931 one kicked kick-ed me in the back. Two army hospitals failed to put me right again so I went away to a private priv-ate hospital." Captain R. G. Coates, company com-pany commander, testified that mules seemed to pursue him, and that Harris by sticking to his job on the 1931 occasion gallantly averted a serious stampede. The court's decision was reversed. |
