Show Honor Pioneer, 80 At Anniversary I In Springville i ! Joseph Vane, wed known pioneer ! of Springville, celebrated his eightieth eight-ieth bir'.'hday Thursday with a family fam-ily dinner at his home, South Second Sec-ond West street. The dinner was prepared and served by Mrs. Vane who recently celebrated her seventy-sixth birthday. Both are active and alert in mind and body. During the day Mr. Vane received a number num-ber of telegrams and other mes- ' sages from old time friends, rela- j lives and acquaintances who joined I in extending felicitations. Born in Rochester, Wayne coun- ty, New York, March 9. 1853, Mr. j Vane has led an exceptionally active ac-tive life. He came to Utah in 3o74 ' working at first in Bingham and later in Little Cottonwood canyon. In 1878 he began working lor the Peasant Valley railroad, old-time company, and continued until it was sold to the p. & R. G. railroad company in 1882! when Mr. Vane became be-came road master of the western Division, extending from Green-river Green-river to Salt Lake. He was also employed as timber inspector of the coal mines in this vicinity for a number of years. In 18 he began farming, retiring in 'Jl20. He was married to Lucina Clark in 1881. The couple have three children chil-dren Joseph H. Vane, Jr., Salt Lake, Howard L. Vane and Mrs. B. M. Mendenhtl, Springville; also nine grandchildren. |
