The Utah county Republican eon- vention will be held in Lehi short- ly following the state Republican I ! convention, it was decided at a meeting held Monday night. More than 150 Republican workers of the party were in attendance. Chairman Kesigns E. H. Street, who for the past four years has acted as county chairman resigned his position, hut it was "agreed by the central coin-! coin-! mittee that the resignation would ; : not be accepted until the couniy ; convention at which time his suo j cessor will be appointed. j Mr. and Mrs. George Worthcn I and I. E. Brockbank were appointed appoint-ed as a committee to draft up res- i olu tions of respect for Mrs. Susie W. Poulton, county organizer, who recently died. Mrs., Berne tta Beck, of Provo, was appointed by the central committee to fill the vacancy left by the passing of Mrs. Poulton. County Outing Many Hats in Ring For Congressional Con-gressional Nomination; Dates Not Fixed With the first of a series of three conventions to be. held this fall prior to the November election just a few weeks away interest in things political is beginning to show a per-I per-I ceptible increase. Utah voters will go to the polls on November 4 to elect one congressman, con-gressman, one justice of the supreme su-preme court, and a complete county ticket including state legislative members. Three Conventions; No dates have been fixed as yet for any of the three conventions j which will select the congressional, state and county nominees of the , two parties. j The congressional conventions ; usually the first to be called were ' held two years ago in the early part of August. No indications as to the date this year have been made as yet by the two chairmen, W. W. j Wilson of the Republicans and Dar- ; l ell T. Lane, liemocrats. j The best guess is that the confab will be called for the latter part of this month. There is no scarcity of candidates for the congressional nomination in the two rival camps. With the death of Congressman Elmer Leatlierwood a number of Republican Repub-lican aspii ants tor the post have declared themselves with many additional ad-ditional names being mentioned as receptive candidates for the honor, l'rovoans Mentioned-' Three avowed candidates from the Republican ranks have already tossed their hats into the ring. They are George F. Wasson, attorney and school board member of Salt Lake; Fred C. Loo f burrow, prominent prom-inent worker, also of Salt Lake, and N. C. "Corey' Hanks, well known blind lecturer, of Provo and Salt Lake. j At a special meeting of the executive execu-tive officers of the Utah County Re-! Re-! publican club it was decided to j hold a county outing at Geneva on August 22. A. F. Gaisford of I American Fork was appointed on . the arrangements committee, Wil-ford Wil-ford A. Hall of Provo and D. J. Larsen of Lehi were appointed on the program committee. . Frank Salisbury was appointed chairman of the dance and Fred Markham, Maurice Jones, both of Provo, and Floyd Walker of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove were appointed on the general committee, with Mr. Mark- ; ham chairman. W. W Segmiller, of Salt Lake, a member of the state executive committee, com-mittee, and J. Howard Garrett, I president of the state Republican , club, spoke briefly at the meeting, as did Fred Markham, president of the Utah county club and Mayor Sidney Gilchrist of Lehi. 1 County Chairman E. H. Street presided at the meeting. Practically Practical-ly every precinct m the county had representatives present. , It was announced that each Wednesday Wed-nesday at 12 o'clock the County Republican Re-publican club would hold a luncheon lunch-eon at Keeleys and all members of the organization were invited to attend. All three of these men have laid I plans for an active campaign and ! all of them will go into the conven-i conven-i tion with a large number of dele-: dele-: gales pledged on the first ballot. ! In addition to these frequent j mention have been made of E. A. Rogers, former district attorney of i Sat Lake; Judge W. Wortheu and 1 Preston G. Peterson of Provo. Prof. J. H. Paul, who lost the election two years ago in a close finish to the late Mr. Leatherwood, is again a candidate for the Democratic Dem-ocratic nomination. Others who have been prominently mentioned are Ray Van Cott, district attorney of Salt Lake, Burton W. Musser, stale senator of Salt Lake, 'Darrel T, Lane, attorney and prominent lodge man of Salt rake; C. Clarence Clar-ence Neslen. former mayor of Salt Lake; and George S. Bsillif, county attorney and prominent Legionnaire of Provo. The most active campaign up to date has perhaps been waged by Mr. Paul since his announcement two weeks ago. |
