Show Steel Safe Central ConiiTiitceo Arranges For Stale Celebration SALT LAKE, March 24. That Steel Day is going to be one of the biggest days, from an industrial point of view, that ever was celebrated in the state of Utah, is the unanimous unani-mous opinion and vote of the entire membership of the central cen-tral committee appointed by Gov. Charles R. Mabey to arrange ar-range for the proper celebration of the birth of Utah's iron industry. That much was gathered at today's meeting of the committee com-mittee in the rooms of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce. The central committee met this noon to discuss the immediate imme-diate organization for definite work on the arrangement for the day. At the suggestion of A. H. Jenkinson, speaking for officers offi-cers of the Columbia Steel Corporation, the exact date for the celebration was fixed : Saturday, June 7. That will be STEEL DAY in Utah! While, naturally Steel Day will center in Provo and Springville and in the few miles between those cities the day will be noted throughout through-out the entire western country, from Colorado to the Pacific. Officers of the Columbia Steel corporation, from the coast will attend at-tend the celebration, and others, too, interested in the western development de-velopment of the iron and steel industry in-dustry will be present. I was pointed out that in view of the fact that the by-products1 coke ovens at the Provo-Springville site is the largest of its kind ever put up in this county, or in the world, for that: matter, by-product experts of eastern cities would come to Utah to see the newest thing in by-product utilization in actual operation. Manufacturers of iron and steel products are known to be waiting the test at Ironton before launching out into a program of expansion of their plant system to include Utah. Columbia Steel officials are confident confi-dent that many eastern manufacturers manufac-turers will have representatives in Provo from the moment the first iron flows from the blast furnace and for months afterward to observe ob-serve operations. One of the first questions answered answer-ed today was that of "What day will be Steel Day?" A. H. Jenkinson, speaking for the Columbia Steel corporation, said the company officials had decided that either May 31 or June 7 would suit them. He asked the committee commit-tee to vote as to which of those two dates was desired. The vote unani-mousely unani-mousely was for Saturday, June 7. So aSturday, June 7, will be Steel Day in Utah, and especially in Utah county, and more especially in Provo and Springville. Chairman E. S. Hinckley, of the central committee, presided at today's to-day's meeting. J. A. Owens was the other Provo member of the committee present. Springville's delegation included Myron Crandall, Cran-dall, Jr., M. O. Packard and John F. Mcudcnhall. |
