Show UTAH COUNTY PERSONAL TAX INCREASING Counfv Assessor Hawkins Reports Re-ports $7,000 Personal Tax Collected. Fur the first time in the history of Utah county has any personal taxes been collected from the Mexicans Mexi-cans employed by the Tiutic Standard Stand-ard .Mining company at Dividend, according to Charles E. Hawkins, assessor of Utah county. Early this year, Mr. Hawkins deputized dep-utized J. A. Clayson of Provo to act as assessor among the Mexican population pop-ulation of that district. Mr. Clayson having lived in Mexico for several years is thoroughly conversant with tbe Spanish language. He made a careful Inventory of everything belonging to the foreign workers at the mining camp, with the result that when he assessed their personal property and they realized that lie had everything down clearly and precisely they paid the tax. More than $500 was collected in this manner from the Mexicans at the camp. According to Assessor Hawkins this is the first time in the history of the county that any personal taxes have ever been able to be collected from the foreign population in the camp. The personal tax this year will exceed last year's tax with about $2000, says Mr. Hawkins. Already $7,000 has been collected by the assessors as-sessors office, which equals the amount collected during the previous pre-vious year. More than $2000 Is yet to lie collected on the personal taxes this year, the total tax amounting to a litle more than $9,000. |
