BALLIF, Provo Amid spirited rivalry and strong party enthusiasm, the Democrats of Utah county convened at the city pavilion at Spanish Fork Saturday and nominated a well-balanced county and legislative ticket for the fall election. Every position on th ticket was contested except the two-year two-year commissi oner ship and the posl Pierce of Salem by George Edmund; Ed-mund; and L. J. Durrant of Provo by R. J. Murdock. The nomination in each case was made by a member mem-ber of the nominee's own delegation. delega-tion. The final .result on the first ballot bal-lot was announced as follows: Creer, 447; Clayson, 360; Fugal, I o(J, -Lit: caiuii, I x , uttuaui, i , and Pierce, 209. The first four, Creer, Fugal, Clayson and Le Baron were declared elected. Acclamation For Ballif Judge George S. Ballif of Provo won the nomination for county attorney at-torney by acclamation. His name was presented by County Commissioner Commis-sioner J. W. Gillman of Orem. Prominent party workers and state nominees who were present during the afternoon were introduced. intro-duced. Among these were Delbert M. Draper, of Salt Lake, chairman of the state Democratic committee; Mrs. Delbert M. Draper, chairman of the Women's Democratic club; L. John Nuttall, of Provo, nominee for state superintendent of public instruction; John F. Mendenhall of Springville, nominee for state treasurer; treas-urer; O. K. Clay of Price, candidate for attorney general, and J. H. Paul of Salt Lake, nominee for congress. ut (JUtiiiiy uiiui liny, Smoot Easy Winner A. O. Smoot of Provo, present chairman of the board of county commissioners, was nominated to succeed himself on the first ballot of the afternoon, winning over Bishop Robert Elliott of Pleasant View and Henry Erlandson of Pay-son Pay-son by a substantial majority. The vote on the four-year com-missionership com-missionership was announced as follows: Smoot, 297; Elliott, 139; Erlandson. 51. Mr. Smoot was nominated nom-inated by Don Cluff, student of the Young university, who pointed to the accomplishments of the nominee nomi-nee during his previous wo terms. Bishop Elliott's name Was presented pre-sented td the convention 'try J. W. Robinson of Provo, who, said that Elliott had been promised the nomination nom-ination two years ago. He declared himself against a third term and opposed to "perpetuating one man in office." J. A. Loveless of Payson proposed the name of Henry Erlandson of Payson, who was understood to be favored for the two-year term. Considerable Con-siderable argument arose over the question of whether the central or southern part of the county was entitled to the four-year nomination nomina-tion this time. Seconding speeches for Mr. Smoot were presented by Prof. John C. Swenson and E. S. Hinckley of Provo, and H. T. Reynolds of Springville. Mrs. Inez Knight Allen of Provo seconded Mr. Elliott's nomination . Nomination Made Unanimous Following the announcement of the result, Mr. Smoot's nomination was made unanimous on motion of Frank Dusenberry of Provo. No opposition developed for the two-year term commissioner, and Henry Erlandson of Payson was nominated by acclamation. The closest contest in the convention con-vention developed on the nomination nomina-tion for state senator between Dr. R. J. Evans of Lehi and A. R. Creer of Spanish Fork, Evans winning win-ning on the first ballot by a vote of 241 to 232.' i Rodney C. Allied of Lehi pre-J pre-J sentcd Dr. Evans' name, while Creer was proposed by Wallace Brockbank of Spanish Fork. Six names were presented for state representatives with four to be chosen. Those nominated were George W. Le Baron of Santaquin by J. M. Cushing; Eli J. Clayson of American Fork by James H. Clark; Niels Fugal of Pleasant Grove by L. M. Atwood; A. R.
