Show SOCIETY The ladies of the Mothers' Study club of this city spent an enjoyable enjoy-able half day Friday when they went on an industrial tour visiting Startup's candy factory and the Troy Laundry enroute. The process pro-cess of making candy proved interesting inter-esting to all members. Many educational edu-cational facts were gained by the trip. All met early in the afternoon at the public library to hold a short business meeting. Delegates to the district convention were selected, Mrs. Manford Hutchinson was voted in the club as a new member, and Mrs. J. O. Reynolds,, chairman of the executive board presented the year-book. The afternoon's after-noon's entertainment was concluded, conclud-ed, with, lunch at Kcelcy's in Provo. The following club members were present: Mrs. L. L. Baker, Mrs. J. O. Reynolds, Mrs. Philda Finley, i Mrs. Reed Bird, Mrs. J. W. Whit-j ing, Mrs. J. E. Whitney, Mrs. J. M. I Bate, Mrs. Lloyd Bird, Mrs. George Harrison, Mrs. Will Alleman, Mrs. ! J. M. Pierce, Mrs. Ellias Harmer, Mrs. Joseph Grant, Mrs. Ernest Oakley, Mrs. Glen Kennedy. Members of the Alpha Beta club were pleasantly entertained Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. D. P. Brinton. An especially interesting interest-ing topic on "Should Modern Advertising Ad-vertising Be Condemned." was given by Mrs. Mary Oakes. Current events were by Mrs. Sarah Packard Pack-ard ; piano selections were furnished fur-nished by Mrs. Mary Witney and Mrs. Cartherine R. Dougall entertained enter-tained with vocal solos. In conclusion conclu-sion a delicious luncheon was served by the hostess to 18 members mem-bers and two guests. Mrs. J. O. Reynolds entertained at her home Monday for Mrs. Sarah Lemon of Salt Lake, who is visiting here. Mrs. Reynolds' mother, Mrs. Walter Wheeler was also a spccialguest. Daughters of the Pioneers, camp No. 2, will be entertained at their next meeting Thursday, October 10. at the home of Mrs. Harriet Dougall. Doug-all. A nice program will be given at this time and all members are aslicd to be present at 2 o'clock. The first meeting of the N. I. P. club will be held Friday evening beginning at 8 o'clock. Miss Mer! Blackett will be hostess and a full evening's entertainment i;f planned. plan-ned. All members are asked to be 1 present. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Campbell of Salt Lake were guests of Mrs. Campbell's parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. J. Groesbcck over the week-end. Activities of the year for members mem-bers of the Ladies Literary club began be-gan Saturday afternoon when the first meeting was held at the home of Mrs. E. L. Faux. President Mrs. Catherine Salisbury briefly reviewed review-ed the pleasant relations retained thi ough the organization of the club, which is one year old. She also welcomed as a new member Mis. Lawrence Maycock of Provo. An afternoon of music with the noted American musician, Charles ; Wakefield Cadman was greatly enjoyed. en-joyed. F. J. Faux, supervisor of the Spanish Fork high school music department, gave an interesting sketch of the life of Cadman and also rendered two vocal solos by the same composer, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Faux. Othec numbers num-bers were, violin solo, Miss Hazel Anderson, accompanied by Miss j Gloria Friel at the piano; solos, i Miss Helen Palfrey man, accompanied accom-panied by E. L. Faux. In conclusion conclu-sion a tasty luncheon was served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. F. J. V Members of the Kolob stake Primary Pri-mary board met at the home of Mrs. Beulah Whiting Thursday evening eve-ning in the form of a social and to make pop-corn balls for the Primary Pri-mary celebration held in the high school Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Best of this city announce the marriage of their son. Richard, to Miss Yvonne Brown of Ogden. The ceremony was performed September 24 in the Salt Lake temple. The young couple will make their home in Salt Lake and Mr. Best will attend at-tend the University of Utah during dur-ing the coming year. Mrs. W. B. Crandall was guest at a delightful social function given by her sister, Mrs. Jesse Wadley in Pleasant Grove Monday. In appreciation of the work done during the summer months b- the Relief society . teachers of the Fourth ward tho officers of that organization entertained at a well planned social at the chapel Tuesday Tues-day afternoon. A splendid program was given including some fine extemporaneous ex-temporaneous numbers. Light refreshments re-freshments were served to a largr number of Relief society members and visitors. |
