Members of the Utah Water Wa-ter Storage commission, ac-companied ac-companied by Governor George H. Dern, Mayor John F. Bowman, and other notables, nota-bles, will make an official inspection in-spection of the proposed Deer ' Creek and Utah lake irrigation irriga-tion project on Friday, Oct. 17, according ac-cording to plans made Monday at ! the meeting of the county com- j mission, Traversa S. I. Valley Leaving Salt Lake early in the morning, the party will traverse the territory along the east bench of j Salt Lake valley from Fort Douglas Doug-las to Draper which will be bone- 1 fitted by an increased supply of supplementary A-ater from the proposed project. Hie party will probably be met at the point of the mountain by vhe Utah county commission, representatives represen-tatives of the Prdvo chamber of commerce and other organizations of the county. Arriving in Provo about noon after aft-er inspecting the route of the proposed pro-posed pipe line from the mouth of Provo canyon across the hills above Alpine to Draper, the party will be the guests of the county officials at a luncheon at the Roberts Rob-erts hotel. In the afternoon the party will proceed around the lake to Mosida and points south to inspect the large tract in the vicinity of Goshen which it is proposed to irrigate by means of pumping units. Will Entertain Visitors Plans for the reception and entertainment enter-tainment of the visitors went drawn at Monday's meeting of the county ' commission. J. R. Murdock and Elmer Jacob, representing the . Provo Reservoir company who have numerous filing on Utah lake water, were present. Under the revised plan it is proposed pro-posed that the Deer creek reservoir and lake pumping projects be combined com-bined under one unit with an estimated esti-mated construction cost of $10,000,-000. $10,000,-000. The plan, in brief would involve in-volve a 5-mile tunnel through the Uintah range to tap the Duchesne river and bring additional water i into the Provo river watershed. This tunnel and reservoir project would rival the Strawberry valley project, which was undertaken at a cost of $3,500,000, 20 years ago. The Strawberry tunnel is four miles in length. Repeated soil tests at several tentative ten-tative dam sites in Provo canyon indicate that the most favorable location for the proposed dam will be a short distance above the North Fork, just above the Utah-Wasatch Utah-Wasatch county line. The lower location of the dam would remove much of the objection of Wasatch county interests who fear that the farming lands near Charleston would be submerged if the dam were built at the upper site. |
