Show Spanish fork favors proposal if access road is permitted No definite decision was reached at the meeting, but the proceedings were tape-recorded for study by the commission. com-mission. Mayor Haymond said Wed. that it would probably be near the first of December before a decision would be reached by the highway officials. Springville was well-represented at the public hearing in Spanish Fork Thursday afternoon after-noon of last week, to formally register their objections to proposed pro-posed approach route from a point in Spanish Fork Canyon to the new Interstate Highway 15, by way of the northern part of Spanish Fork. Springville citizens argued that it would be more economical econom-ical to use the present well-built well-built Highway 89, which now comes into Springville, rather than to purchase a new right-of-way and build a completely new highway. Highway officials have pointed out that the proposed new highway through the north portion of Spanish Fork would be a controlled access highway and Spanish Fork representatives at the meeting did not approve this. They did however favor the present plan for the highway through Spanish Span-ish Fork, providing there was an access roadway into their city. The new highway proposal, in the opinion of Springville citizens, would not help Spanish Span-ish Fork and it would be a blow to the economy of Mapleton, Maple-ton, Springville, Provo, Orem and other cities in Utah County, Coun-ty, as motorists would reach the Interstate north of Spanish Fork on a controlled access road, and travel directly to Salt Lake City.
