It received an Excellent rating on the point system of judging. Title of the show was "Box Lunch Social," and was written and directed by Afton Banner. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Lowe, Mrs. Jackie Lowe and Mrs. O. C. Lowe were in Randolph Tuesday of last week for the funeral service of Mrs. Nich-olls and returned by way of Mirror Lake. r-- - I i J Mrs. Florence Turner of Sut-ton, Yorkshire, England, vi-sits in Springville. English lady tours Utah, visits locally Mrs. Florence Turner Sutton of Yorkshire, England, is a visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Y. Bearnson on a vacation from her native land. The widow of the Vicar of Campsall Parish, Mrs. Turner plans to be in Springville un-til about July 9, when she will go to Chicago and from there to New York to take a boat to England. She came to Montreal, crossed Canada to Vancouver, B.C., where she vi-sited friends and later attend-ed the Fair in Seattle. Mrs. Turner's late husband was Vicar of the same parish Joseph D. Reynolds attended before coming to Springville in 1855. Her sister is married to a cousin of Mrs. Bearnson, and the Bearnsons made her acquaintance while visiting in England recently. ' A trip to the Canyons of Southern Utah, to Salt Lake City, the Art Gallery, nearby canyons and other attractions have been enjoyed by Mrs. Tuttle during her stay with the Bearnsons. Mr. and Mrs. Alden Oakley have recently returned from a most enjoyable vacation trip to Hawaii. Before taking the plane for the islands they vi-sited four days with friends in Oakland. They toured the many places of interest on the islands during their five days stay there' and visited briefly with former Springville people Mr. and Mrs. CJe.np Wilson .and family, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Kent Diamond. They also went thru the LDS Temple and viewed the work on the new taber-nacle on' the islands. They re-port that within a year, the people on the island of Oahu expect to have ten new cha-pels. ' If you agree with every-thing the editor writes you have no more sense than the editor. . Sheeley, Spring-vill- e, a student of Brigham Young University, took part in the Eighth National Medicinal Chemistry Symposium of the American Chemical Society at the University of Colorado. Three hundred and fifty chemists attending the three-da- y meeting (June 18-2- took a close look at pain, its cause, its cure and new "electronic" approaches to better drug de-sign. New instrumental techniques for measuring the effects of drugs and other chemicals in biological systems as well as the influence of drugs on cer-tain hormones which affect the heart and nervous system are being described. CU chemistry Prof. Norman F. Witt is general chairman for the symposium. Dr. Nath-an Sperber. associate director of research and development at the Schering Corporation, Bloomfield, N.J., is in charge of the technical program. Major events planned for family reunion The Averett--F arnsworth families this week announced dates for their annual reunion or Camporee July 13, 14, 15, at Kellys Grove. A prize will be given for the largest fam-- ily group In attendance. A kid's program, weiner roast and free watermelon are planned for Friday evening; a pie eating contest, saw-du- st treasure hunt, fishing and pro-gram for adults, Saturday and sporta with prizes, visiting and genealogy are planned for Sun- - ' day. Arrangements are under di- - rection of Dean Averett, presi dent of the family organiza-tion, who Is being assisted by other officers and committee men. Relief Society friends Honored at luncheon A lovely social event of the past week was the party given at the home of Malinda Sum-sio- n Thursday evening of last week for officers and class leaders who served with her while she was president of the First ward Relief Society. The party was held in the garden of the Sumsion home, Mrs. Sumsion being assisted by her daughter Rea Straw and Lula Mendenhall. A nicely ar-ranged lunch was served near the rose garden and roses also decorated the entire home. The ladies enjoyed looking at a lovely satin quilt which they made and presented to Mrs. Sumsion when she retired in June 28 years ago. Talking of old times and friendships took up the remainder of the time. Present for the enjoyable evening, were: Mae Child, Ger-trude Sumsion, Mabel Law, Lois Clegg, Geanie Pierce, Grace Martindale, Margaret Huntington, Floss Phillips, Nova Blanchard, Jeanette Ul-loc- k, Hilda Cherrington, Flos-sie Sanford, Delpha Hardy and Stella Wixom. The June grooms are get-ting nervous. . . Primary worker given farewell In tribute to LaNell May-nar- d, retiring Springville stake Primary board president, who is leaving soon to make her home in Lander, Wyo., mem-bers of the board gave a so-cial Wednesday evening, invit-ing advisors. A nicely arranged pot luck dinner was an enjoyable part of the evening, together with a musical program. Melba Wheeler and Dorothy Stewart gave a vocal duet, accompan-ied by Leonia Cameron, Pri-cel- la LeRdy gave a tribute to the guest of honor and the group sang a number. She is accompan-ied by her friend and colabor-ato- r, Mrs. Mildred Bruce, who expects to return to her home in Edinbore, Pa., in a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Russell enjoyed a visit from Mrs. Rus-sell's sister, Mrs. Lita Cooley of Cedar City, recently. They all went to Grantsville, while she was here to attend a fam-ily reunion. Orval C. Lowe recently re-turned from a trip to Califor-nia. He visited his daughter and son-in-la- Mr. and Mrs. Dan Bartholomew at Highland.
