Show Car drivers more dangerous than polio, heart, or cancer The Utah County Safety Committee has called attention atten-tion to the frightening number of highway fatalities occurring in' Utah County, and particularly particu-larly this year to children under un-der 12 years of age. There have been a total of 10 traffic deaths this year in comparison with 11 last year at this same time, but four victims this year have been children, 11 years of age and younger. At this time last year no children in that age group had been killed. Members of the safety committee com-mittee called attention to the fact that if almost 5,000 children chil-dren were killed in this country coun-try by a new disease, we would rally all possible resources to combat it. Or if four children had been killed in the county this year because of some terrible ter-rible disease much more would have been made of it. Yet, a killer of this same magnitude is abroad in the land the Am-(Continued Am-(Continued on Page 2 Col. 5) Car drivers more dangerous than diseases (Continued from Page 1 ) erican driver. The latest official offi-cial figures available (1958) show that 4,501 children were the victims of motor vehicle accidents. Drivers are killing and crippling more children than any disease more than cancer, more than polio, more than heart ailments. This is, in effect, an epidemic, and there is something we can do about it. The record shows that where traffic laws are strictly enforced and obeyed, deaths go down.
