Childs, Fullerton, Calif., completed two weeks of an-nual active duty training at Oakland Army Terminal, Cal-ifornia, July 14. Captain Childs is assigned to the 762nd Transportation Unit Training Center, an Army Reserve unit in Haw-thorne, Calif. The captain, son of Mrs. Erva Childs, 290 West 200 South, Springville, is a grad-uate of the Springville high school. Compositor, Stereotypist : i Springville man ' on Navy tour Keith H. Brown, aviation machinist's mate third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken-neth E. Brown of 340 West 300 South, is serving with Attack Squadron 55 which will depart Norfolk, Va., July 19, aboard the attack aircraft car-rier USS Constellation on a cruise that will take the ship to her new home port of San Diego, Calif. The squadron flies the ver-satile A4D-2- N "Skyhawk", capable of employing the en-tire gamut of weapons from machine guns to atomic bombs. The current cruise is to bring the huge vessel from the east coast around South America to the West Coast. Ports of call will include Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Valparaiso, Chile; Callao, Peru and Aca-pulc- o, Mexico. The squadron expects to exhibit its proficiency in these ports by performing in air shows for local guests. The officers and teachers of the Mapleton Second ward pri-mary held a social and prepar-ation meeting at the home of Mrs. Hugh Hjorth. Mrs. Roy Tanner has been released as secretary and Mrs. Ross Hall will take her place. The Mapleton Jaycees and their wives enjoyed their an-nual steak fry on Memorial Park last Saturday night with thirty three guests present. Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. James Diamond. Supper was followed by a musical program presented by Quintin Lowe, Ted Elder and Lee Robertson who played several numbers on guitars. The group participated in a community sing. Making ar-rangements for the evening's entertainment were Richard Thorn, Roger Hutchings, Neno Antineno and Douglas Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Waldon Hurst motored to Salt Lake City Sunday where their daughter Yvonne Burt and children came by plane from Ft. Lewis Wash., where her husband Rodney Burt is stationed with the National Guard. Rodney will arrive some time during the week. He has been releas-ed from his duties at Ft. Lewis. Mr. and Mrs. Alma Jensen arrived home Monday after spending the past year in Tempe, Ariz., where Alma has been attending the Uni-versity on a scholarship. He plans to teach in the Spring-ville high school this fall.
