Camp Sierra Bonita DUP Enjoys Program Members of Camp Sierra Bonita DUP were at the home of Mrs. Melva Gottfredson for their Christmas party Thurs-day afternoon, with Mrs. Ann Jane Pierce, Mrs. Elva Peter-son and Mrs. Bertha Fullmer, assisting hostesses . Captain Lula Jones presided at the program which included j a pioneer history by Mrs. Em-- j ma Kennedy of her grandpar-- j ents, Hubbard and Susan Am-elia Childs Noakes. Mrs. Alice Davis gave the lesson on, "Happenings in the Valley," and also an interesting Christ-mas story, entitled. "The Pur-ple Purse." Pamela Kerby and Venice Christensen entertained with violin selections and the hos-tess served a nicely arranged lunch following the exchange of Christmas gifts among those attending. Ward Seventies, Wives at Party Members of the Seventies quorum of the Twelfth ward and their wives were enter-tained at a Christmas party Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. John Jensen and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Bird were in charge of arrangements. Games and ex-change of white elephant gifts followed a dinner enjoyed by the following: Mr. and Mrs. Richard Millet, Mr. and Mrs. Don Miner, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hjorth, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Oliphant, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Robertson, Mr. and Mrs. Wil-bur Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Har-old Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Boyack, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Erickson, Mr. and Mrs. John Jensen and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Bird. The evening was conclud-ed with group singing of Christmas Carols. i S! Miss Judy Ann Browning of Baton Rouge, La., who became the bride of Neil D. Sumsion in a ceremony in the Salt . Lake Temple Tuesday of this week. A reception will be given in their honor Friday evening. Judy Ann Browning Recites Vows With Neil D. Sumsion in Temple Lovely Miss Judy Ann Browning, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Browning of Baton Rouge, La., became the bride of Neil D. Sumsion, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Bert Sumsion, in a ceremony Tuesday in the Salt Lake Temple. A wedding reception will honor the couple Friday eve-ning in the Reception Centre, 574 North State in Orem, to which relatives and friends of the newlyweds have been bidden. The bride-ele- ct graduated from high school in Baton Rouge and has been attending Brigham Young University. The groom completed an LDS mission in Canada where he served as branch president of the Kitchener district. He has also completed his th service training with the U.S. Air Force and is presently enrolled at BYU. Mrs. Edna Nielson Notes 80th Birth Date with Family A son and six daughters of a family of eight, came home Saturday to help their mother, Mrs. Edna Nielson, wife of Patriarch Peter Nielson, cele-brate her 80th birthday, at a family gathering. Mrs. David Greenwood (Elaine) came from Tucson, Ariz, and returned Tuesday by plane; Mrs. W. C. Lewis (Loya) came from Chicago; Lloyd Nielson, a rocket spe-cialist returning from Cape Canaveral to Sacramenta, sur-prised the family with a visit; Mrs. Van Gubler (Edna) and husband and baby came from LaVerkin; Mrs. Geraldine At-kinson, Mrs. Berniece Duncan and May Nielson of this city were all in attendance. Also Mr. and Mrs. Kent Butterfield (Jean Lewis) came from Brig-ha- m City and Chris Lewis, a student at the BYU, also at-tended the family birthday party. A son, Reed Nielson of Reno, Nev., was unable to get home for the birthday. Mrs. Nielson and her hus-band have resided in Spring-vill- e since 1928 coming from Southern Utah. She is a daugh-ter of Willard and Melissa Meeks Snow, early colonizers of Southern Utah. She has always been active in church work and has held various offices. She is also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Ladies Literary Club Members of the Ladies Liter-ary club will be entertained at the home of Mrs. Bert Groes-bec- k for their Christmas party this evening at 7:30 p.m. As-sisting Mrs. Groesbeck will be Mrs. M. N. Moon and Mrs. Louis Johnson. Legion Auxiliary Has Christmas Party Legion Auxiliary members were entertained with a de-lightful Christmas program Wednesday evening at Memo-rial Hall with approximately 55 members in attendance. President Marva Davis conduc-ted the meeting and business and introduced Mrs. Florence Boyer as program chairman. Mrs. Floss Phillips gave a Christmas story to highlight the program. Mrs. Francis Clark gave two Christmas songs, accompanied by Mrs. Maurice Bird and the group sang Christmas carols. The hall was appropriately decorated for the occasion with a table centerpiece of candles, evergreen and other motifs. The members each brought a dish towel as a gift to the unit. Lunch suggestive of Christ-mas was served by the hostes-ses and Christmas candy was given as favors. Serving were: Mary Schwartz, Clara Sum-sio- n, Melva Smith, Florence Roylance, Gladys Pennington, Vilate Reynolds, Helen Rey-nolds, Marie Rostron and Etta Jones. 11th Ward Plans Bazaar Dec. 18 The Eleventh ward Relief Society is sponsoring a Bazaar Friday evening beginning at 6 p.m., at the Springville Stake House, where supper will be served. All kinds of handiwork will also be offered. A short program will be given under direction of Mrs. Sarah Weight, president. Games and a program were enjoyable features with Vir-ginia's step-fath- er Gene Wood, entertaining with ventriloquist acts. Mrs. Melvin Dalby of Wal-nut Creek, Calif., is visiting with her mother, Mrs. Dan Sumsion in Springville. A folded damp cloth placed under a mixture bowl keeps it from slipping and speeds mix-ing. |
