Binlts J Phone HUnter A social as well as construc-tive day was spent at the home of Mrs. Lora Bird last Thursday when the Needle Craft Club met for a day of , quilting. A delicious hot lunch- - j eon was served at noon to j eighteen members and one guest, Mrs. Cora Clegg. Hos-tesses were Martha Whiting, Belva Wentz, Eva Bird and Lora Bird. Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Tew are happy over the arrival of a new grandson born to their daughter Sharon (Mr. and Mrs. Mark Bills) of Springville. Mrs. Inez Harmer is home after three weeks in the Utah Valley Hospital where she un-derwent surgery. Morris Warren is home after completing two years in the army. He is the son of Mayor and Mrs. Welby Warren. He received his basic training and clerk typist course in Fort Ord, California and has spent the remainder of his service in the Hawaiian Islands. While in the service he enjoyed a thirdy day day vacation trip to Japan. Mrs. Senate Mendenhall is recovering at home after treat-ment at a Salt Lake City Hos-pital. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Grange and children Dean, Kelly and Mayreen have purchased the Myrtle Bird home in Mapleton where they plan to make their home. They have been living in Edgemont. Dr. Paul K. Edmunds has been called to the office of Stake Superintendent of the Kolob Sunday School. John Parry will also work on the board . A family style dinner was served to one hundred and fif-ty Elders and their wives in the Mapleton Second Ward one night last week. Master of ceremonies was Leon Fullmer and helping in making arrange-ments were Reed Bennett, Har-old Whiting, Preston Hooper, Mrs. Leonard Allan and Bonnie DeGraw. Participating in the program were Ross Francom of Payson and Joseph Hunter of Provo. Mrs. Mabel Hanson hosted the members of the Sierra Bo-ni- ta Club at her home last Thursday night where a tasty hot supper was served in the evening followed by several games of "500." Prize winners were Blanch Tew and Gen Al-lan. ' The Christmas party for the club will also be held at the home of Mrs. Hanson. The date has been set for December 17. Mr. and Mrs. Condie Cran-da- ll and their son John were in Duchesne last Saturday to attend a birthday dinner given in honor of her brother Del-be- rt Broadhead. Miss Margie Warren spent the weekend at the home of her parents Mayor and Mrs. Welby Warren. A delightful turkey supper was enjoyed by the officers and teachers of the Mapleton Ward Primary at which their husbands and the ward bishop-ric and their wives were spe-cial guests. Places were laid for fifty guests at a long table gay with Christmas motif. Each guest was presented with a favor, the women receiving handkerchiefs and the men candy canes. An entertaining program was presented with the following taking part: president, Delna Cazier wel-comed the guests; Donna Rieske introduced the officers and teachers in an original poem; and paid tribute to two outgoing officers, pres. Nellie Allan and her counselor Afton Barker who were also present-ed with a gift of appreciation for their services; a skit was presented with the following participating: Grant and Grace Norwood, Bernita Hurst, Bar-bara Erdmann, Lynn Houtz, Brent Williams, Welby War-ren and Norman Barker; story, Donna Reiske; remarks by Bishop Stewart Whiting and Delna Cazier; carols by Grace Norwood and June Houtz. The prayers were given by Harold Barker and Ruth Larson. Eight members of the Maple-ton Lions Club met with the Lions club of Spanish Fork at a joint meeting in a cafe at Spanish Fork last Thursday night. Spanish Fork president Scott was in charge. Guest speaker was District Governor Russell Williams of Price who talked of Lionism on an In-ternational basis. Accompany-ing Mr. Scott was the district secretary. Soldier Trains At German Base Army PFC Royal R. Ste-vens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ro-bert W. Stevens, 390 E. Third So., Springrville, recently par-ticipated with the 4th Armor-ed Division's 41st Infantry in a field maneuver in southern Germany. A driver in the infantry's Company A in New Ulm, Ste-vens entered the Army in De-cember 1958 and received ba-sic training at Fort Hood, Tex. He arrived overseas last May. The soldier is a 1954 graduate of Springville High School. |
