Show MARRIED FOR FIFTY YEARS 4 MANY ATTEND RECEPTION MR. AND MRS. JOHN D. PETERS, of Erighain City, who celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage in the First ward amusement j I hall in Brigham City last evening. 7 Friends of Brig-ham City Couple Gather to Do Them Honor. Special to The Tribune. BBIGHAM CITY. Nov. 2-. A reception re-ception was given in tho First ward amusement hall this eve-uing eve-uing by Mr. and Mrs. John D. Peters of this city in honor of their golden wedding anniversary. Two hundred hun-dred invitations were mailed to friends and relatives in Utah and Idaho to participate, par-ticipate, aud a goodly portion of this number took part in ijie evening's fes-tivi fes-tivi ties. Preceding the reception this afternoon, after-noon, Mr. and Mrs. Peters entertained at an annual family dinner, which has been their custom lor many years. Attending the dinner were their children, chil-dren, grandchildren and gTcat-graud-chihlren. The evening reception began at 8 o'clock with an interesting pro-grain, pro-grain, which was followed by refreshments. refresh-ments. The remainder of the evening was spent in enjoying early-day dauc- lug. Mr. aud Mrs. Peters were married in the Salt. Lake endowment house November No-vember 22, 1S69, by Kauiel H. Wells. Since their marriage both have lived active lives and have added greatly iu the upbuilding of the community. Mr. Peters was born at Salt Lake City on Mav 10. 1S50, and Mrs. Peters, who was Miss Louise Biugham, was born on the Platte river, June 32, lS5o. while her parents were en route to Utah. Mr. Peters has been prominent in public life. He served as county superintendent su-perintendent of schools from ISS to 1SS7. He was then elected probate judge of Boxelder county and served in that capacity for three years. In 1890 he was elected county clerk and served a term of two years, and in 1S92 he was elected state representa- ' five from this couutv. In 1893 ho was elected mayor of Brigham City, and during the same year his career as bunk cashier began, when he accepted a position with the Bank of Brigham. He was representative of Boxelder county in tho constitutional com cation iu . 1894. Iu 19." Mr. Peters was sent on a mission to llreat Britain, and upon his return homo he waa again elected countv superintendent of schools. A$v ter two years in this office he reentered re-entered the banking business, but was forced to resign on account of poor health. He entered the bankiug business busi-ness again, however, in 1901, when he was ma.le the cashier of the newlv organized l'irst National bauk of Brigham Ci'v, which positiou he now -. During the war Mr. Pfters was directing di-recting bead of the Liberty bond drives, and at p resent is a trustee of the Utah I Agricultural college. He has been ae- I tive in an ecclesia-tirnl way, also, lm - ' ing served ns bishop's counselor, a member of the high council ami stake i superintendent of Sundav schools. Sirs. Peters has amply born her share of responsibility. Sho is the mother of ten childreu and has been a I devoted mother. She has been active in civic and religious organization of Brigham Citv uud Boxelder county, haviug particularly been associated j with tho Kelief society as stake prcsi- dent. |
