Show mim m Here to Fight Sinn Fein; Methods Likened to Boloheviki. NEW YORK, Dec. A. Methods of the Sinn Fein were likened to those of the LioLsheviki by seven members of tho Ulster Unionist oouneil of Ireland, who arrived today on the sleam::hip Columbia. Colum-bia. In a statement to the press they said they had come to the United States to protest against the spruad of S.nn Fein propaganda. Six of the members of the mission are clergymen. "As an official riule'sation from the Kpiscopai, Methodist arid Presbyterian churchos of Ireland to the United StaU-s of Amiriea," tho statement ' said, "wo wish first to convey the i-jivet Ina of the people we repi en cut to the people of America. "Ye arc not lu-re on a financial campaign. "U'o are not hero on a political campaign American politics i a matter for Aniurioans, and JJr.ush politics a matter mat-ter for J Iritishurs. We arc here in the interest of la w and .order, of truth and honesty, of fair piny and principle, to protest against the pernicious propaganda which is being spread in your country in relation to .Ireland. "Our mission is not sectarian. Our mission is to say to America that the Sinn Fein movement in Ireland, which is spread ing its propaganda in A merica, is not a solution ot the Irish question; that it is radical and destructive in its threat and assassination; and that it is not supported sup-ported nor respected now by tiie brt ter type of people in Ireland, whether Catholic Cath-olic or I'roto.-tant, who have no interested interest-ed or prejudiced motive; that it was tho partv of r obeli. on during the war; that it supported and furthered the cause of tho foe; that it was a traitor to the allied al-lied cau.-e. We wish to point out to the people of America that its terms are misleading. mis-leading. Naturally in America you would favor a republican form of government. The Sinn Fein calls itself a republic. Therein lies the danger. It is a movement move-ment akin to the Bo'shevik republic in Hussia. Both their methods are alike. "We are here to say to Amer'ca that this clement is, according to their own announcement, asking the American people peo-ple for several millions of dollars. It is vour rirht to d as you please with your gifts, but we feel that you ought to know t lie purpose and the object for which tluso m'llions are being raised. The republic re-public does not exist and cannot exist. "We arc here a Is " to assort our self-respect. self-respect. If what these Sam Kc'n ngents sav eonccrnmg the British government in relation to Ireland as to brutality, domination domi-nation and subjection, is true, and if our churches are opoosed to Sinn Fein then we are partners with the government. Wo resent their untruthful propaganda; we are here to help your citizens, who know the falsitv of the Sinn Fe'n appeal, ap-peal, to inform the American publ'.c on the real situation. We know our mission mis-sion will have a wide hearing, for .tho renort of your fa;r play and honor is abroad in our churches ' The d-'legation is from Belfast and soon wi'l i e-.;in a speak'ng tour of the United States was met bv a committee from th" S- oietV for Amer:ci!i and Brirsh VY'ends'.rp and pv minister mid laymen from a large number of churehts in New, Yolk and vicinity. |
