Show HE SUBJECTS TO BEHM1BLED Chicago to Greet American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers. CHICAGO, Sept. 20. Practically every subject of importance to the American mining- world will be discussed at the 120th meeting of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers, which convenes here for a five-day session ses-sion tomorrow. This is the 120th meeting meet-ing of the institute and the attendance will include all those prominent in mining. min-ing. United f? tates government officials and leaders of industry. Tho fact that mine taxation, conservation conserva-tion of coal and new developments in the measurements of high temperatures are subjects to be thoroughly discussed at this meeting has excited great interest among mining engineers. On account of I tho number of subjects to be presented, a good part of the five days is given up to j technical work, from which it is expected , that there will be developments of con- ' sicirable moment. The Institute will take a number of i special trips to points near Chicago, in- eluding a steamer trip to Gary, lnd., and 1 rail trips to North Chicago and Milwau-j Milwau-j kee and near-by coal fields. I It has just been announced by the institute in-stitute that Charles M. Schwab will be I in attendance and will address the institute insti-tute at a banquet on "Wednesday evening. The principal session on tho opening day will deal wkh mine taxation and representatives of the United States treasury will be present to participate in the discussion and to aid the co-operative opinions of the mine owners and engineers. en-gineers. During tho day technical sessions ses-sions will take up nonferous metallurgy and metallography, coal and gas, milling, industrial organizations and geology. In the evening there will be a smoker at the Chicago University club. On the second day, September 23, the institute will take an excursion by boat to the plant of the United States Steel corporation at Gary, lnd., with technical sessions en route on the subject of iron and steel. In the evening, sessions on oil and Iron and steel will be held. On the third day, September 21. several hours in the morning and afternoon will be given over to conferences on sulphur in coal, iron and steel and mining and local resources. In the evening, President Horace V. Winchell of Minneapolis v,-111 hold a reception at Congress hotel, to be followed by a banquet and dancing. !
