All of the men have weight and appear well ersed in blocking and tackling. Xeuensehwander, Kiepe, Robinson and Thornburg have been working well on the line. Several others have anneared for suits but will not appear until the latter part of the week. -The frosh will have a full schedule with the numerous high schools clamoring clam-oring for practice games. The Ogden high will be their first opponents, on i September 26. The game will be piayed in the junction city. The plavers as a whole handle themselves them-selves well and there is little of the awkwardness that has manifested itself in former vears. The candidates have a general knowledae of the game. In some cases the local men have been reluctant to leave good positions, but bv the end of this week the entire squad is expected to be on hand. With so manv good men out, Fitzpatrick will carrv a large squad numbering between thirty-five and forty men throughout the season. The preliminary practices have been devoted chiefly to rudimentary tactics, such as kicking and catching the bail, throwing and receiving forward passes, falling on the ball, position of the player and light signal work. Several good workouts have taken place and. starting tomorrow, the regular routine will be followed five evenings a week with no letup. Vniforn.s have been issued all the candidates and as soon as .the first SQtiad is selected, new paraphernalia will be handed out. All material has been ordered. Stars Report. Among the wearers of the Y:x who have put in an appearance aro Alphonso Thornm. Brick Warring, Pipe Gardner and Ei-h Kay. Kay showed im Friday in a suit and has been showing his old time form. The appearance of this star will give the vanity an excellent man around which to" build the backfie'.d. The other three men are also good in the baekfield and much may be expected ex-pected from this quartet this year. Others who have been showing class behind the line are Milt Komney, Stub-bv Stub-bv Grev. Kov Simmons and numerous others. Romnev won fame as quarter and half back on the East hih eleven. He has taken on considerable weight and w-ould fit in well at quarterback. His punting has also been classy and his p'assinz has been good. Grev piloted pilot-ed the frosh team in 1317. while Simmons Sim-mons is a product of Granite high. On the line, the veterans have not vet put in an appearance. For center, Walt Silver and Sid Burdctte of the East high and West high, resre-t'vely. have been working out. Harvev Hancock. Warren Gilmer. Jake Sciiafsky and several others oth-ers are working for tackle and guard positions, po-sitions, while Kellv, Jorgenson. Walker. Wal-ker. Wilson and Saimenson are out for end job's. Frosh Prospects Good. Freshman projects appear the brightest bright-est in rears. With the appointment of Jiov Alelntyre as coach, the infants secured se-cured one of the best versed gridiron |
