Xibley is expected ! to be presiding officer at the Salt Lake meeting at which United States Senator Hiram Johnson of California will present pre-sent his argument against the league of nations, according to an announcement made yesterday by Henry Welsh, chairman chair-man of the Republican state committee. Mr. Welsh said Bishop Nibley also will head the committee on ways and means. A vice chairman will be appointed in case Bishop Xibley cannot act, he declared. de-clared. Arrangements are being made for the official committees for the Johnson meeting, meet-ing, which will be made up, Mr. Welsh said, of leading Utah Republicans. Several Sev-eral committees, including a reception committee, will be announced by Mr. Welsh as soon as the definite daie of Senator Johnson's visit is known. Representatives Repre-sentatives from the counties of the state will act on some of the committees. Definite announcement of Senator Johnson's John-son's Utah dates are expected today. The latest telegram received by Chairman Welsh slated that Senator JohnBon wiil recommence his speaking tour in a few days. It is planned to have Senator Johnson speak at Ogden in the afternoon and in Salt Lake in the evening. Mr. Welsh says he understands action on Senator Johnson's bill for an amendment amend-ment to the league has been postponed by the penate in order that the senator might complete his tour. He had been recalled to Washington, as the date for the hearing on his bid had been set. |
