Show Oil 10 GUI MEET HE Fill Norman Brookes, Australian Australi-an Shark, Beaten; Anzac Doubles Team Wins. SOUTHAMPTON, N. Y.. Aug. 22. Charles Garland of Pittsburg and Willis! E. Davis of San Francisco will meet in : the final round tomorrow of the Meadow club lawn tennis tournament. ! Garland eliminated Norman E. Brooks, Australia, today, 7-9, 6-1, 14-12. The international character of the tournament was preserved, however, as the Australian pair, Randolph Lycett and R. V. Thomas, will oppose Garland and William T. Til-den Til-den II in the doubles final. Lycett and Thomas had little difficulty in gaining a place in the final of the doubles off F. C. Doyle and Dudley Morgan, Mor-gan, 6-4, 6-4. Morgan was so wildly erratic er-ratic on his smashes and volleys that the ball rarely landed in the court. From their side, Lycett and Thomas directed their fire toward him with such profitable results re-sults as to score the critical game. Tilden and Garland outplayed Robert Lindley Murray and Dean Ma they, 9-7, 6-3, in the other doubles semifinal. Ma-they Ma-they was the weak spot on the opposite side of the net in the flashing rallies, in what was easily the best doubles match of the day. Brookes only once before had been defeated de-feated in this country and that time by Maurice E. McLouhlin. Brookes always found difficulty in handling the service of Davis, although by fine overhead volleying vol-leying lie broke through in the tenth game , of the third set, when Davis was three' ! times within the match point. Davis was i strong in the closing game, using lobs to I open the way for a fast line drive to win the point and the match. |
