Show Yanks Take Lead in American NEW YORK, June 22. New York jumped into first place in the American league today in a close three-cornered fight for the leadership, while Chicago and Cleveland were losing. Cincinnati cut New York's lead in the National to two and one-half games by beating the Giants today in a ten-inning contest. Pittsburg, five games behind the leader, Is coming com-ing up strong as a contender. The Chicago Cubs received a setback at the hands of New York and also lost a series to Brooklyn last week. In the east-versus-west series just finished, the two sections In the American Ameri-can league broke almost even, the westerners winning thirty games and losing twenty-nine, while in the National the western contingent won forty-one games and lost seventeen. The teams fared as follows: American Cleveland, 10-5: New York, 9-5; Chicago, S-6; Washington, 8- 3; St. Louis, 7-8; Boston, G-8; Philadelphia. 0-9; Detroit, 5-10i National Pittsburg. 11-12; Cincinnati, 11-3; St. Louis, 10-5; New York, 9- 6; Chicago, 9-7; Brooklyn. 4-12; Boston, 3-10; Philadelphia, 1-13.
