Show CHANGE IN ATTITUDE. Advices from Rome indicate that the succession to pow-er of Signor Francesco Fran-cesco Nitti, the new premier, will be signalized by a decided change in Italian attitude with reference to territorial ter-ritorial issues the rock upon which the ministry of Premier Orlando was wrecked. Orlando 's inability to obtain ob-tain the promised territorial grants from the peace conference, his emphasis empha-sis on the Fiuine situation and the serious economic trouble in Italy all contributed to his downfall. Singularly, Singu-larly, the premier's break with Wilson, Wil-son, instead of strengthening him at home, had, according to Italian advices, ad-vices, the opposite effect. The president's presi-dent's resolute stand on the Adriatic dispute, amplified at length in his appeal ap-peal to the Italian people, at first received re-ceived with a chorus of disapproval, gradually- veered to the other quarter and Orlando was attacked because of his differences with the president, now again regarded as particularly the friend of the Italian people. With the advent of Nitti peace conference con-ference circles in Paris look for less emphasis on territorial questions and an early adjustment of the Adriatic controversy. Thero is no suggestion that Orlando's retirement will disarrange disar-range conference plans. Italy will be a signatory to the peace with Germany and her acceptance of the league of nations na-tions proposal is assured. |
