Show ARMY SHOES TO BE OFFERED TO PUBLIC (Chicago Tribune Special Service.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 21. The war department de-partment has declared a surplus and is preparing to offr for sale at fixed prices to the American public, through the army quartermaster retail stores, approximately 1 ,f'(f0,'Ki0 pairs of new army shoes on the Munson last. This is the first offer made by the war department to sell new army Inspected shoes. The quartermaster general of the army has Issued instructions for the distribution distribu-tion of approximately 1,000, DuO pairs of the shoes to the twenty-five retail stores now being operated under his supervision, and they will be available to the public as soon 'as delivery to the stores can be effected. Tiie superintendent of each store will make local announcement of the date on which the shoes will be placed on sale in his store. The remainder of tho surplus will be distributed to the army retail stores In accordance with the demand developed for them. The surplus stod includes three classes of shoes, namely, the chocolate-colored marching shoe, which will lie sold in the retail stores, both over the counter and delivered on mail orders, at -$S.5 a pair; a heavy weight metallic fnstcned shoe that was maim facturcd for fluid use, which will retail at $7.50 per pair, and a welt shoe, which will sell at $7.50 per pair. |
