Show SOCIALISTIC ROW. Tim convention of Socialists in Chicago Chi-cago riviiiri-il but little time in which to get into a rumpus which is certain to widen tin? breach between the avowed Bolshevists in the party and the moderates. At tho outset the convention con-vention was organized by the conservatives, conser-vatives, tho radicals being forced to withdraw, organizing a second convention conven-tion of their own with the intention of perfecting a political body frankly committed to cojnmunistic policies. The radicalism of this "loft wing" element may be gauged by tho declaration declara-tion of Victor L. iicrger that "they are anarchists" and not representative of tho rank and filo of the Socialist party. We may bo pretty suro that an element too radical for Bergor to stomach is collectively and individually an undesirable one. Berger has been suspected of being somewhat radical himself. Tho Socialist party has been divided for months, many of its leaders taking offense at the stand of the party officials of-ficials during the period of America's participation in tho war. A large element ele-ment in tho party has concluded that oven iu its radicalism tho organization organiza-tion is too moderate, hence the split which is likely to culminate in a brand new Bolshevist party composed of disgruntled dis-gruntled Socialists. The entrance of a Bolshevist party into the next campaign will afford a splendid chance for red-blooded Americans Ameri-cans to do some vigorous swatting at tho polls. As for tho moderate Socialists, Social-ists, they ought to be thankful at getting get-ting rid of a very serious obstacle to their growth. |
