Show BARKS AT PERSHING. Representative Thomas D. Schall of Minnesota has mado a vicious attack upon General John J. Pershing, declaring declar-ing that the commander of tho American Amer-ican army in the great war is seeking the presidency of tho United States and that he is "absolutely unfit for tho office." of-fice." Schall, it will be remembered, was tho only man in congress to vote against conferring the full rank of general gen-eral upon Pershing and ho received some notoriety on account of his adverse ad-verse vote. In addition to charging General Pershing with being inhuman and cruel, and that he censored information infor-mation sent from Franco to the United States lo his own advantage, Schall also accuses the general with snubbing a congressional subcommittee sent over the ocean for the purpose of quizzing him before be had a chanco to make his report to the war department. As the alleged "snubbing" consisted of refusing to answer questions prematurely, prema-turely, no seusiblo man will feel inclined in-clined to censure tho general for his course in the matter. Just now General Pershing is on a tour of the country for tho purpose of inspecting the army posts and is being very well received by his countrymen whenever and wherever he appears in public. Representative Schall has observed ob-served this and seeks to dampen the ardor of those who are taking delight in honoring the warrior who commanded command-ed the American army on the bloodstained blood-stained fields of France. Schall is too small a man to represent a great state like Minnesota in tho national house of representatives. |
