Show DECLARE PREMIER'S PROPOSALS INTENDED TO MISLEAD OPINION LOXDOX. Wednesday, Dec. 21. The Daily Herald, labor organ, emotes opinions opin-ions on tho government Irish home rule plan. Arthur Griffith, founder of the Sinn Fein organization and "acting president of the Irish republic," said: "There is nothing for Irishmen to discuss. dis-cuss. The premier's proposals are not intended to be operative, but are made to affect and mislead opinion in the United States." George Russell, the Irish poet, declared: "There is nothing in the proposals calculated cal-culated to produce reconciliation, and tli ere is no reason why the Sinn Fein should cease working for the destruction of the British empire. Under Lloyd George's proposals Great Britain would retain complete control over taxation, the trade policy and economic development of Ireland, which means that Ireland would be given, not seif-government, but certain cer-tain administrative powers." William O'Brien, secretary of the Irish labor party and trade union congress, said: "The" plan is unworthy of serious consideration. It is manifestly for export ex-port only." |
