Show MAY PERMIT WOMEN IN HOUSE -OF LORDS LONDON, Oct. .7. The house of commons com-mons today adopted an amendment to the pending bill' for the removal of sex disqualifications, dis-qualifications, permitting women to sit and vote in the house of lords. The amendment was adopted, 171 to ,S4. The alien restriction bill, on which the government suffered aAdefeat last week, "was amended in the house of commons today, according to the government's desire. de-sire. An amendment offered by Bonar Law, the government leader, was adopted unanimously. The government's defeat last Thursday Thurs-day was over an amend ment to modify the restriction withholding pilotage certificates cer-tificates from all aliens, the government desiring to make it inapplicable to French pilots who were allowed privileges in Lr.tish ports in exchange for corresponding correspond-ing privileges to English pilots in French ports. Bonar Law today moved an amendment amend-ment reading that "the provisions of the clause in the pilotage act of 1913 shall 1 continue to apply to the renewal and ifinie of certificates entitling French master? and mates to navigate their ships into New Haven and Grimsby." The government leader said Great Britain Brit-ain wanted to make clear to the French that the British intended to adhere to their prewar agreement. |
