Show IITTi OEQKJUIE Strikes Revive Interest in Region Formerly j rroductive. ; Great activity' prevails in the Marietta district, lo'-atcl in the 13 lock Mountain j mining district, twenty-four milos south- ! west of Mina, Mineral county, according to the Tonopah Times. The district was a big producer in the late seventies and early eighties, but has been lying idle since that time, with the exception of a few leasers operating on a small scale. Within the last six months several strikes of high-grade silver and lead ore have heen made in this district, j suveral salt s have been made and a number num-ber of companies have been formed which I promise to operate on a large scale. The companies recently organized are: The Silver Outer Mining company, group j of five claims formerly owned by the I" Miller brothers. Several shipments of high-grade ore have, in the past, been made from these claims. The Nevada Black Hawk Silver Mining company, organized by II. M. Hamlin, i group of five claims, from which ore has 1 been shipped to the value of several hun-i hun-i tired thousand dollars. These claims j were worked In the late seventies and early eighties. The Silver Gulch Mining company, 1 which has taken over the H. K. Skinner property. The company is taking out high-grade silver and lead ore and ex-i ex-i pefts to start shipping in a few days. The Endowment mine has recently been j taken over by the Humphrey brothers and i associates, and is said to have produced ! ore to the value of 51,500,000. i The Elephant property has been pur- " chased by Tonopah people, who are now forming a company to operate on a large scale. On Block mountain, which lios south and east of those properties, several rich strikes have recently been made by B. Ti. Shepherd on what is known as the Marcia group of claims. He has uncovered uncov-ered one ledge for a distance of 1000 feet in length, .with shallow shafts and cuts which show values in silver and lead ranging from $25 to $500. Captain L. W. Whiting and associates have taken over the group of claims ad- ; joining Mr. Shepherd's. A ledge three feet wide and BOO feet long was recently discovered on these claims by Abe Wolf. It shows values in lead and silver from 575 to $500 per ton. ' The Miller brothers of Silver Gulch are taking out a shipment of high-grade silver and lead ore that runs $150 per ton. Joe Giroux, formerly of Ely and Jerome, Je-rome, Ariz., has acquired a large group . of claims on the south slope of Block mountain, near the old town of Marietta, and is prospecting it on a large scale for large bodies of copper ore. , The Joe Ruddy property, lying west of ' Silver Gulch canyon, has just recently rr.ade a rich strike of gold ore. Jim Plant and Charles Dodge, who own the old Foster trroup of claims on the ' east side of Block mountain, are mining in god silver ore and expect to make n shipment to Salt Lake in the near future. fu-ture. The Marietta district promises to be one of the greatest high-grade gold, silver sil-ver and lead districts in the state of Nevada. |
