'police investigate i COSTLY FUR THEFT The police are Investigating the theft of $3500 worth of furs and fur coats stolen from the Mode, 4-1 Kast Third South street, early yesterday morning. The porter discovered the mbbf-ry on entering the stort: preparatory to be- I ginning work. A clerk had been in the store until midnight Sunday. According to Henry Segil, manager, the thieves entered thu building by smashing the panel of a rear door and I reaching through, turned the knob on the lock. They went immediately to the fur case and robbed it of its choicest contents. The inferior furs were left untouched. The loss was fully covered by burglar insurance. The stolen goods evidently were carried car-ried from the rear of the store down the alley, which was too narrow for an automobile to enter, to a side street where a car, the police believe, was parked. This is the third fur robbery in Salt Lake within four months. Illness. Special to The Tribune. PROVO, Sept. 8. James Erastus Snow.1 one of the early pioneers of Provo, died at his home in the Fifth ward last night I after a lingering illness. He is survived by his widow and the following children-Marshall children-Marshall M. Snow of Salt Lake, Rosswx 1 and William Arthur Snow of Provo, Mr Josephine Thomas of Pleasant View and Mrs. Jennie McDowell of Provo. Mr. Snow was born in Xauvoo, I., March 26, 1R46. He came, to Ftah in lSr.2 with his parents, James Chancy Snow and Eliza Ann Snow. In 1S63 be accompanied Captain John R. Mnrdock and others to Omaha, where they went to the rescue of emigrants and there served as a night cattle guard for several months. He was a Black Hawk Indian war veteran, having served under Abraham Abra-ham G. Conover from May 1, 166, until July of that year. Later he did 'patrol duty under Captain Caleb W. Haws Mr. Snow lived in provo practioall'v all of his life and was active in civic afa'rs The funeral services will be hold in the Fifth ward meeting house WediH-sdav afternoon at 2 o'clock'. The body may be viewed at the resilience, 55 East Th'rd North street, from 12 o'clock to 1:30 on the day of the funeral. |
