Show CORN ADVANCES ID HAS SfflG CLOSE Upward Swing- Is Result of Insufficient Reply by Hun Leaders. CHICAGO, Oct. 22. Com took a decided de-cided upward swing1 from the price today to-day owing- to general belief that the Berlin Ber-lin answer to President Wilson was insufficient. insuf-ficient. The market closed strong, 3 to Zc ret higher, wfth November 123 to 123, and December, 120 to 120i. Oats finished lc to 2c up, and provisions at gains of 15c to $1.45. Sharp advances with which the corn market opened, were well maintained throughout the session. After the first rush of buying had 'been satisfied, moderate mod-erate reactions from initial top figures ensued, but bullish sentiment gathered additional force, and was virtually unchecked un-checked as the day came to an end. Attention At-tention of traders seemed to be wholly absorbed by the fact ,that the unofficial text of the German statement differed widely from the bearish versions that yesterday yes-terday had caused values to break. Purchasing1, Pur-chasing1, however, was confined mostly to shorts. Offerings were rather light, especially es-pecially In the final hour. Oats merely reflected the fluctuations of corn. Receipts were not large, but there was an absence of seaboard business. Strength in provisions grew chiefly out of buying- that wae ascribed to packers. Dealings were for the most part in January Janu-ary deliveries, on which restrictions as to price changes during any single day have been removed. RANGE OF THE LEADING FUTURES. Open. High. Low.
