INFLUENZA CLAIMS 1 UTAH SOLDIERS One Dies at Camp Lewis, Othfer Succumbs at Fort Logan. Mrs. Hazel Hildebrand of 411 East Ninth South street, yesterday received word to the effect that her husband. Sergeant Ser-geant Robert F. Hildebrand. died of influenza in-fluenza at Camp Lewis, Wash., Monday. Serg-eant Hildebrand, who was 28 years old, was formerly employed by the Utah Light & Traction company. He was drafted in August and sent to Camp Lewis, where he was attached to A company com-pany of the Thirteenth supply train. In addition to his widow he is survived by a daughter, Melva, 2 years old; his father and three sisters. The body is expected to arrive in Salt Lake today, and funeral arrangements are held in abeyance pending its arrival. Telegraphic advices received yesterday by Mrs. A. D. Ryan of .1195 East Twenty-seventh Twenty-seventh South street, conveyed the information infor-mation that her nephew, Joseph Ladd Damron, only son of Bishop and Mrs. Joseph Jo-seph W. Damron of Deseret, had died of influenza at Fort Logan, Colo., near Denver, Den-ver, Monday night. . The young soldier enlisted last August, immediately upon reaching the age of IS years. He was sent to Fort Logan for training, and has been there since. He was an enthusiast, and recently wrote to his parents that he wished He had enlisted en-listed long ago. Besides his parents, he leaves five sisters, Mrs. Spencer Wright and Lucile. Marlam, Virginia and Ruth Damron. The body will he taken to Deseret Des-eret for service and interment, the time of which will be. announced later. |
