" ' ' Valiant Service Being Done by Motor Corps YOUNG society women are continuing their efforts in aiding- the forces at Civic Center in furnishing nourishment to influenza victims and hot lunches to volunteer nurses. Soup and dainty food were carried to the sick by Mfss Mary Mayne's 'motor corps and the nurses were brought to the center for their luncheons yesterday. Twenty nurses were served and thirty-three thirty-three lunches were sent out to the sick, in addition to quantities of soup. Donations of soup stock and delicacies for the sick have been received. The domestic science department of" Rowland Hall will donate custards today. The following additions were made to Miss Mayne's motor corps yesterday: Mrs. George Wood, Mrs. Heien Handin, Miss Sarah Frank, - Warren Westcott and Joe Rosenblatt. The fraternities of the University of Utah have pledged the following new members: Sigma Chi, Douglas Love, Martin Otinger. Drew Chiptnan, Walter Silver, Alex Wallace, Corner Thomas, Russel Harrington, Aren Bel Hansen, Van Grant, La Mont Preece. The Beta Theta Pi fraternity have as their new members: James Spry, Fred Quigley, Harold Pingree and Warren Wes'cott. Phi Delta Theta, Gerald Hines. Pi Kappa Ahoha, Melvin Freebalrn. Social functions connected with "rushing" and pledging the new members have been postponed until the reopening of the university, closed on account of the Influenza epidemic. epi-demic. Miss Anne Newman, the daughter of ;Mr. and Mrs. James Newman, who live south of Holliday, has been appointed Wlllard Dawson Thompson memorial scholar in the University of California Califor-nia for the ensuing academic year. Miss Newman is a 1916 graduate of the East side high school and later attended the UnivPT-sitv nf TTroh fiho ic a m,,,K,. of the Alpha Chi sorority. Last year she held a responsible position as teacher in the School for the Deaf and Blind at Ogden. . Mrs. Will Powell will entertain a few friends at dinner this evening at her home on C street, in honor of Miss Helen Packard, whose engagement to Clyde J. Chamberlain was recently announced. The Saturday Night club, which was to have been entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Ledyard M. Bailey Saturday evening, has postponed its meeting one week on account ac-count of health regulations. The Octagon Bridge club, which was to have been entertained yesterday by Mrs. J. D. Wood, has postponed its meetings until the restrictions concerning social gatherings are removed by the board of health. The Catholic Woman's league Red Cross auxiliary wilt meet this afternoon at Amelia palace for gauze work.
