Show UTAH SAILOR WINS FRENCHWAR CROSS A. Earl Taylor of Ogden Is First to Secure Coveted Decoration. Special to The Tribune. OGDEN, Oct. 22. One of the first Utah boys in the navy who has been decorated by the French government is believed to be A. Earl Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Taylor, 841 Washington avenue. The young man has sent to his parents, with the admonition to guard with their lives, the cross of war with the gold star, one of the highest decorations presented pre-sented bv the French government. He said he could not tell in a letter what he had done to get the decoration, but that they would know some day. The cross of war is of bronze, suspended sus-pended from the ribbon carrying the tricolor tri-color in the center, with the head of "La Belle France," and is subscribed: "Republlque France." The decoration has been admired by a host of friends and relatives in the city, before It was placed In a safetv deposit box by the family. Mr. Taylor enlisted in the navy in May, 1917. After a short training period at Mare Island, he was sent to the Atlantic At-lantic coast. He is reported to have made about six trips to Europe and return re-turn with troop convoys. At the present time he Is at some port in France. |
