Show JESS REQUESTED TO HELP CUE Willard Expected to Do His Bit in $170,000,000 Welfare Campaign. NEW YORK. Oct. 22. Jess Willard. heavyweight heavy-weight champion of the world, was requested by telegraph today to glTe his pugilistic services in the nation-wide canipaicn to raise $170,000,000 for the various welfare organizations engaged in furnishing comfort to the American forces. The telegram, which was addressed to Willard at his home at Lawrence. Kan., does not men-tiou men-tiou the Dame of a prospective opponent. It simply asks him to volunteer his services as many other boxing champions are doing.
