Show REGULATIONS WILL I0T AFFECT LABOR Secretary Bakes Issues Formal For-mal Statement Regarding 'Work or Fight' Order. WASHINGTON, May 25. Secretary j Baker today issued a formal statement, state-ment, declaring that Provost Marshal General Crowder's work or fight regulations regu-lations were promulgated without any intention of affecting to the least degree de-gree labor conditions. He said it was not the intention of the war department depart-ment to affect labor by military regulations regu-lations or in any other way. "My attention has been called," said Mr. Baker, "to the possibilities of some misunderstanding occurring because of the regulation affecting persons engaged in less essential industries. in-dustries. "One suggestion is that this is a beginning of a series of regulations for the purpose of affecting labor. I want to say in the most positive manner man-ner that this regulation has nothing to do with labor. The sole purpose is to guide exemption boards in their duty to apply the provisions of law affecting affect-ing occupation as the reason for exemption ex-emption and deferred classification." |
