Asked regarding government re b frictions fric-tions on the importation of rubber, and the endeavor of tire manufacturers in cooperation co-operation with the government to restrict l he manufacture of unnecessary tire sizes, Jd Theobald, local manager of the ..Jfnited States Tire company, said: 3 'The intention of the government in the control and restriction of the importation impor-tation of rubber is to conserve shipping V. space, and the program that has been laid before the manufacturers of rubber goods has won their unanimous support for the war trade board and the shipping board. "In addition, the manufacturers of tires are heartily co-operating with the government gov-ernment program for the eventual elimination elimi-nation of unnecessary tire sizes. This elimination will simplify the problem for each user of the motor car of reducing his cost and making it possible for him to secure the tire size he needs, in good tires, more readily than the markot and manufacturing conditions now permit. "Plans for the withdrawal of certain tire sizes from use by manufacturers of motor cars will not in any way interfere with the manufacture and distribution of the tires to users who need those particular particu-lar sizes at any time." Mr. Theobald was very insistent in his statement that there "is nothing in the present or probable future situation to occasion the slightest apprehension .of a shortage of tires for legitimate use. "However, there never was a time." he said, "when users of motor cars could so well serve the nation as by making the most of their cars in legitimate commercial commer-cial and passenger service and refusing to noard or unnecessarily anticipate their needs in tires or other motor oar supplies." sup-plies."
