Show CANNOT VETO PART OF APPROPRIATION Special to The Tribune. BOISE. Idaho, Oct. 14. A number of appropriations authorized by the last legislature and vetoed in part by Governor Gover-nor Alexander will be allowed to stand, in face, of an opinion that has just been rendered by Attorney General Walters to the effect that under the constitution the governor cannot veto a portion of an item appropriated by the legislature. He must veto the item in toto. The opinion was rendered at the request re-quest of the state engineer. The legislature legisla-ture appropriated $9500 for the payment of salaries of Carey act engineers. Governor Gov-ernor Alexander reduced the item to $2500. The attorney general holds this could not be done and that the item of $9500 stands as appropriated as though the governor had not taken action. |
