Show TO GIVE ISICTI 01 CAUSES OF II Special to The Tribune. PROVO. Sept. 23. A communication received by president George H. Brim-hall Brim-hall of the Brig-ham Young university from the war department in Washington reads, in part, as follows: "The committee on education and special spe-cial training- of the war department has decided to Include as an Integral part of the work of all members of the student stu-dent army training corps a course on the remote and immediate causes of the war and on the underlying conflict of points of view as expressed in the governments, gov-ernments, philosophies and literatures of the various states on, both sides of the struggle. "The purpose of this course is to enhance en-hance the morale of the members of the corps by giving them art understanding of what tbe war is about and of the supreme importance to civilization of the cause for which we are fighting." The president of the university has appointed ap-pointed Professor Christen Jensen, head of the department of history and political science, to take charge of this course. The course will consist of three parts of three months each, any one of which may be taken as a separate and complete com-plete whole. This has been made necessary neces-sary because of the fact that the student soldiers may be called into active field service at varying times. The first three months of the course will deal principally with the historical and economic causes of the war; a nil second t'n roe months with the points of view of the different nations engaged as expressed in their governments and social Institutions, and the third three moitlhs with their points of vfew as expressed in 1 their political philosophies and litcra -tures. |
