Show MllDTrlPOSES" SETTLEMENT PLANS Mine Owners and Smelter Managers Consider Proposition Prop-osition on Tooele Strike. William Wraith, manager of the International In-ternational Smelting company, stated at the conclusion of a conference held yesterday yes-terday with John Mi-Bride, representative representa-tive of Secretary William B. Wilson of the department of labor, that Mr. Mc-Bride Mc-Bride had made the mine owners and smelter managers a proposition regarding regard-ing the settlement of the strike at Tooele, which is now under consideration, consider-ation, but the terms of which have not been made public. Mr. McBride, who is here in connection connec-tion with the strike of the smelter employees em-ployees at the Tooele plant of the International In-ternational Smelter company, presided over a meeting yesterday afternoon in the offices of the smelter company, 617 Reams building, at which were represented repre-sented the independent mining interests inter-ests of Bingham, Ophir and the new district dis-trict of Gold Hill, all of which ship their ores to the Tooele plant to be refined. re-fined. Mr. McBride had with him at the conference con-ference William B. Kuerr of the state industrial commission. Others at the meeting were William Wraith, general manager of the International Smelting company, and the mining men, who refused re-fused to give oit their names, asserting that at the proper time the public should know all that was going on. Mr. McBride said that while there was nothing definite in the way of information in-formation to give the public, yet progress prog-ress had been made, lie further stated that a meeting would be held this evening even-ing and another on Monday, but that the time or place of either meeting had not been determined upon. While the representative of the labor department and the mine and smelter managers are here holding conferences, the striking workers of the Tooele plant are patiently waiting the issue. They have put much faith in the ability of Mr. McBride to adjust the differences tht now exist between them and the managers of the smelter. |
