Show IMPEACHMENT OF MAYORJSJPOSSIBLE Committee of Chicago Council Will Consider Resolution Monday. CHICAGO, June 23. Members of the Chicago board of education, including those recently appointed by Mayor Thompson, whose right to office Is In question because of the ctty council's reconsideration of confirmation, met today to-day under the protection of fifty-two uniformed uni-formed policemen and eighteen detectives and after two hours of jockeying for advantage by the two factions, adjourned to meet July 3. The only busmesK transacted trans-acted was the adoption of a motion to reassure teachers In the city schools and employees of the board that they need not fear summary dismissal because of the Internal strife. Meanwhile the Judiciary committee of (he city council announced that It would consider on Monday the resolution of Impeach Im-peach man t directed against Mayor William Wil-liam H. Thompson, which was offerer! at yesterday's turbulent council meeting. Maelay Hoyne, state's attorney, will be called In to advise on the mutter. Mr. Hoyne has given it as his opinion- that the mayor's action in refusing to entertain enter-tain motions at the council meeting and in declaring the meeting adjourned was abuse of power and ground for impeach- 1 ment proceedings. A fight for possession of the hoard offices in a downtown office building is looked for. Eventually it Is e pected that the matter will be taken to the courts. Mayor Thompson sail today that talk of his resignation was a "joke." |
