The Red Cross $10,000 relief fnnd campaign, launched yesterday inorniun and continued through tho day, waa declared de-clared last night to havo been a success suc-cess by sponsors of the movement. .More than 300 women prominent in thfv's social, political aud business ,'fJ took part in soliciting fuuds. Thorough-ly Thorough-ly tired from their day's labor, but happy because of the gratifying re- suits obtained, these women expressed their appreciation of the manner in which the people of Salt Lake received them. While the counting of the money turned in by the workers was not completed com-pleted at a late hour last night, H. K. Byrne, chairman of the special finance and membership committee, expressed the belief that about $8000 was tho fruit of the campaign. 'Wo set $10,000 as our goal, but I believe that little more than $SC00 was realized, " said Mr. Byrne last night. "I consider this a remarkable result, taking into consideration the fact that there were fewer than eight hours devoted de-voted to actual Soliciting. WTe are morn than satisfied and our heartfelt thanks is freely given to those men and women who yesterday so substantially supported support-ed the Bed Cross cause. Women Work Splendidly. "To the noble women who gave their time and efforts to this campaign is due the credit for the success achieved. Their enthusiasm never waned aud they held loyally to their work every minute of the day. 1 have never seen a more-determined, more-determined, resourceful, purposeful group of workers than that which so splendidly carried this work to a successful suc-cessful end. "I am deeply grateful to the men and women who have been associated with, me in this campaign, and 1 would like to express personally my thanks to each. Mayor "W. Mont Ferry, K. O. Howard, Miss Kate Williams and William J. Deeney, as officers of the local chapter of the American Red Cross, tJin-valuable tJin-valuable assistance in the organu!tn work incident to the campaign. ThT high school cadets assisted in arousing jt enthusiasm thai went far toward brivt ing success to this ..movement. Will Divide Fund. y "We are very grateful to E. ATraith, city superintendent of schools, for the loyal support given us in this work, and I "shall be glad to have' an opportunity to thank H. J. Halton and F. E. Mayol for their services in ha.ndling the publicity pub-licity end of this campaign." It was suggested by one of the ladies of tbe Red Cross that a vote of thank be extended to Mr. Byrne for the able manner in which he organized the campaign cam-paign and supervised its conduct. "Mr. Byrne did the real work of this campaign and without the invaluable organization assistance he gave us I doubt that we could have made a success suc-cess of it," she declared. Fifty per cent of the funds obtained will be turned over to the national headquarters of the American Red Cross. The balance will be retained by the Salt Lake chapter to be expended in emergencies emer-gencies which may arise through our participation in the war. |
