Show GEM U-BOATS 1 THE GUIEOE MEXICO W ashington Officials Receive Re-ceive Confirmation of Rumors From Abroad. WASHINGTON", April 6. Fersittent. but hitherto unconfirmed, reports of German Ger-man submarines waiting in the Gulf of Mexico for the opening of hostilities with the United States were further supported today by advices to the government from i Europe. The full nature of the government's information in-formation is not disclosed, but it was received from one of the neutrals con- tiguous to Germany which has served as j a clearing house for German Informs- . tion since the severance of diplomatic relations. It was reported at the source of orlglnr of the government's information JP-more JP-more than a score of German submnes were already in Mexican waters. Persons Per-sons here who have been giving attention atten-tion to the subject think the estimate of numbers is high, but feel no doubt that German submersibles are somewhere some-where on this: side of the Atlantic, moat probably in Mexican waters, and That some of them have been there since early in February. There is no doubt here that if the U-boats are in tiie guif they are being supplied from Mexican shore bases. Those who hold these views also are convinced that some i hing closely approaching the arrangements proposed by Foreign Minister Min-ister Zimmermann in his celebrated communication com-munication intended for General Carranza have been achieved and that the whole matter, including the supplying of submarines sub-marines from Mexican shores, was arranged ar-ranged hy Mexican Minister Zubaran in Berlin. |
