Show HERB MURPHY MAY PLAY FOR SALT LAKE Special to The Tribune. PORTLAND, Jan. 14. Although Walter McCredie, manager of the Beavers, refused re-fused to affirm or deny the report, it is believed that Inftekier Bobbie Vaughn, second baseman, and Pitcher Ernie Herbert Her-bert of the St. Louis Federals will be among the players released to Portland by Fielder Jones, manager of the combined com-bined St. Louis Americans and Federals. Tt was also reported that Inflelder Del Drake would be sent to Portland. McCredie emphatically denied that he was seeking Art Korea, his former third saeker, and said there was no chance of Borton getting out of the American league, when questioned about the report that Portland was after the former Vernon Ver-non star. TnfieUler Herb Murphy, who was given a tryout with the Portland Beavers last spring, has been sold to Palt Lake by Spukane. Manager Blankenship said last night that the Information regarding Murphy was premature by a good deal. "I hiive had some correspondence with President Farr of the Spokane club about Murphy, but he wanted a lot more money than I cared to give. The deal has not been closed by any means, and may never be," said Blank. |
