AN unusually lively scene va witnessed wit-nessed at the, Urem freight station sta-tion yesterday morning when another curiond of apples from Cnehe valley arrived and were placed on sale. The crowd that surged ubout the ear of luse.io'is fruit was cosmopolitan to a marked desjiee. Persons of all ages and conditions were present witli the sole purpose in view of obtaining from one to tour boxes of the apples, hut so large was the crowd that approximately itiO persons were unable to get even one box. The car contained "i-TU boxes and they were sold at So cents a box. The sale was conducted bv K. N. Young, private seerctnrv to Mayor V. ilont Kerry, and several assistants. Although the crowd was large policemen kept the line in excellent ex-cellent order, and the sale went through wilh such dispatch that the ooO boxes were disposed of in about seventy minutes. min-utes. No person was allowed to purchase pur-chase more than four boxes and none were sold to peddlers. This was the second carload of apples ap-ples from Cache county to he sold in the city, the sales being the idea of the cni'orgencv and conservation committee of Sa'.t Lake. The apples were Jonathans, and a third carload will be disposed of at the same place, beginning at 7::'.0 a. m. tomorrow to-morrow morning. |
