Show INCREASE ANNOUNCED ON EXCESS BAGGAGE War Revenue Tax on Railroad Service Goes Into Effect Today Throughout Through-out Country. Special to. The Tribune. OGDEN, Oct. 31. Local railroad -officials wero somewhat surprised tod a; to receive a special notice from the federal government announcing that the special ! war revenue tax on excess baggage had j been increased from 3 to 8 per cent. Ordinary Ordi-nary excess baggage rates are based on express rates and the new government lax on express is 5 per cent. The rate in the original schedule was below the express rate for excess baggage and the special instructions received today places it above. All railroad officials in both the freight and passenger departments said today they were prepared for the operation of t lie war revenue tax, which goes into effect ef-fect tomorrow. Three per cent will be collected on all freight bills, S per cent on railroad tickets bud 10 per cent on Pullman tickets. |
