Show HEN PUTS BOYS THROUGH HARD WORK Football practice at the "University of Utah is continuing day after day with monotonous regularity, and with bright prospects of the eleven being in excellent condition for the opening game of the season on October 9. The squad is beginning to take on the appearance ap-pearance of a real team. There will be plenty of strong men for the backfield positions, but the lino is causing worry. There are enough old men back to handle the positions if none is hurt, but as this is bound to happen at times, a good bunch of substitutes sub-stitutes must be developed.' In Tlors-ley, Tlors-ley, Warner and others from the freshman fresh-man team some good men should be turned out. Pat King is play ins center in a manner which may win nim a regular position, a possibility which would release Brokmeyer for some other position on the line "in case of emergency emer-gency . Daily Scrimmage. Norgren is giving the line daily scrimmage now, ana this should soon bring good results. Tho freshman team met bard practices prac-tices the first few days out, and many of the boys are so stiff that they find difficulty in dragging themselves along. Most. ot" the fresnies are new at football, foot-ball, and only hard work can turn them into a good eleven. The freshman class has an unusually large bunch of heavy players on the "squad. They also have a couple of flyweights in the persons of Froggy Paul, formerly of the L. D. S., and Clyde R-omney, recently graduated gradu-ated from' the West high school, both of whom are trying out for quarterback. quarter-back. May Play Tennis. Coach Norgren was discussing with the "U" tenuis players yesterday the possibility of holding a tournament with the Boulder players this fall when Utah meets the Colorado eleven here. The Boulder authorities asked for such a meeting last spring, and the local players play-ers have kept in good condition for it. The two football teams will play here October 30, and it is probable that contests con-tests in both doubles and singles will tie played at that time. Feramorz Little, Lit-tle, Spence Wright, Curt Hawley, Fred Taylor and Chick Van Pelt are showing show-ing up well in practice. The meeting of the athletic council, which was postponed last Monday, has not yet been held, but the members will probably get together within a day or two. The chief work to be taken up is the appointment of an athletic manager and an assistant and the arrangement ar-rangement of details for the new system sys-tem of athletic control which was authorized au-thorized last spring. |
