Federal indictments in-dictments in connection with the Eastland East-land disaster July 24. when the excursion excur-sion Btearaer capsized in the Chicago river, causing the death of 812 persons, were returned today charging conspiracy con-spiracy and criminal carelessness In the operation of an imseaworthy boat. Those named in the true bills were: George T. Arnold, president of the St. .Toseph-Chieago Steamship company, owners of the Eastland. William H. Hull, vice president and general manager of tbe same company. Walter K. Greenebaum, manager of tbe Indiana Transportation company, which chartered the Eastland for the fatal excursion. Harry Pedersen. captain of the vessel. ves-sel. Joseph Erickson. chief engineer. Robert Reed aDd Charles ('. Eckliff, government steamship inspector. Grand Rapids, Mich. W. C. Steele, secretary-treasurer of the St. Joseph-Chicago Steamship company, com-pany, and the St. Joseph-Chicago Steamship Steam-ship company and the Indiana Transportation Trans-portation company as corporations. Arnold, Hull, ' Pedersen, Erickson. Steele and Roy W. Davis, assistant secretary-treasurer of the St. Joseph-Chi cago Steamship company, were indicted by a state grand jury in connection with the disaster several weeks ago. |
