Show NOTED "FRAT" MAN TALKS TO "U" BOYS Professor Francis W. Shepardson of Chicago Addresses Local Beta Theta Pi Chapter. Francis W. Shepardson, head of the history department in; the University of Chicago, and also general secretary of the national body of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, who stopped off in Salt Lake on his way to Chicago, after attending at-tending the recent national convention of the Beta Theta Pi at Oakland, Cal., addressed members of the local chapter chap-ter of the fraternity at the University of Utah yesterday. The meeting was also attended by a number of freshmen wTho are possible members. Mr. Shepardson is also secretary of the National Inter-Fraternity association, associa-tion, and has held the presidency of that organization. Though his address dealt largely with the ideals and aims of the Beta Theta, Pi, he .spoke also of the benefits of university fraternities in general. The purpose of the organizations, organiza-tions, he said, is to encourage real scholarship, loyalty to the university and manliness among the members, and to help them to make a success in the world. |
