At 7 o clock however the f r ng com menced more f ercely than ever the shells exilotng continuously chiefly aroun 1 the Pala s de Justice the pon toon b ldge and the famous railway stat on Bu Mings were crushed to p eces on pery hand ( npptes and invalids were carried or hobbled as beet they might to places of contaratlve safety Amid a process on of thontands of weep ng won en and ch Idren so o pnshed bar rows laden with whatever they had been able to get together Most, how ever were fleeing merely with the clothes thev wore and many were only half dressed Little groups of women tragically adorned with lacy morning caps halted to look back upon the scene where they had left their husbands son or sweet hearts f gating in the trenches
